EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS
Our People Make the Difference
The Meriwether employee spotlight series tells the stories behind the spreadsheets. It offers a closer look at the journeys, passions, and lived experiences that shape how our people show up every day. These stories reveal the human side of our work, showing how life beyond the office informs the care, perspective, and trust we bring to every client relationship.
Marissa Hunter
Marissa is here to defy the stereotypes you might think of when you picture an accountant. Far from an up-tight, pocket-protector wearing, calculator-wielding nerd, this former Cyclone cheerleader breaks the mold; making connections, solving puzzles, and building relationships. She does have a nerdy side though, and she’s not ashamed of it – she uses it to her advantage. Where some folks see boring numbers, Marissa sees the big picture, guiding each project from the first piece to the final picture.
Red and gold through and through, Marissa is raising a tiny Cyclone fan at home – even though her husband, a USC Trojan fan, might be trying to sway their son to the dark side. And although her cheerleading days are behind her, you can still see her and her family cheering on their team from the sidelines. She’s living proof that the people behind the spreadsheets are real people, with real passion, making a real impact.
Brandt Heintz
When there’s a heavy lift on taxes, Brandt is our go-to. Not only is he an accounting champ, he’s an athlete at the top of his game. Brandt has served both at home and overseas with the Iowa National Guard, and that experience shows up in his determination, maturity, and mission-first mindset - making him a solid pillar of our team.
And when he’s not crushing numbers, he’s crushing workouts. A competitive CrossFit athlete who thrives on staying active, Brandt proves you don’t have to be cornered in a cubicle to be great at accounting. At Meriwether, our culture is anything but static - and Brandt proves that here, your lifestyle and your career can exist hand in hand.
Jamie Boess
Iowa roots run deep, and with Jamie, it’s no different. Raised on a generational family farm, agriculture is his foundation and a way of life he happily returns to today. Even with 20 years at Meriwether under his belt, Jamie still makes time to get back to the farm at least twice a year, rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty during planting and harvest seasons. There’s nothing quite like a farmer’s elbow grease, and we’re lucky Jamie brings that same work ethic to his clients at Meriwether.
As a leader highlighted in this Meriwether employee spotlight, Jamie embodies the “Be Both” philosophy, balancing deep professional expertise with real-world experience. From guiding complex corporate tax projects to tending the soil on his family farm, Jamie shows that true leadership comes from living fully in both worlds.
Shelby Bower
Sometimes mistakes put you exactly where you need to be. Shelby accidentally took an accounting class in high school and the rest is history. What started as a course mix-up turned into the perfect fit - so much so that she went on to major in accounting in college and joined us at Meriwether straight out of graduation.
You might not guess it from just looking at her, but Shelby is our resident office deer dealer. Armed with her pink camo crossbow, she keeps us all well stocked with venison that she hunts for and processes with her family. An all-season hunter, Shelby brings that same adaptability and focus to her work, diligently tackling a wide range of tax projects and accounting challenges. Whether it’s a deer or your tax return, Shelby always hits her target.
Matt Vogl
It’s crucial to find the balance between work and play, and Matt has his formula dialed in. With a drive and determination that always gets the job done, he finds his mission in the numbers and gets his zen in on the ice rink. Whether he’s working through audits, reviews, or tax returns, Matt is a trusted advisor to his clients, doing great work while keeping what matters most front and center. He always gets the job done, but never loses sight of his values and the fact that family comes first.
Outside of the office, you can find Matt hitting the ice. A lifelong player whose passion doesn’t stop at him but flows through the rest of his family, he’s just as at home in a pair of skates and wielding a hockey stick as he does behind the numbers. The rink is his dojo, a place to escape from everyday life, but also a representation of the discipline, teamwork, and focus he brings back to his work. Matt is proof that at Meriwether, strong relationships, clear priorities, and well-rounded lives are all part of the game.
This Meriwether employee spotlight series represents just a portion of our team, offering a window into the culture, values, and people behind our work. Each story reflects the individuality, dedication, and perspective our employees bring to Meriwether every day. As this Meriwether employee spotlight continues to grow, we’ll keep adding more voices and experiences, giving a fuller picture of the people who power our firm and the relationships we build with our clients.
